Kim Newman takes this concept and runs with it in THE SECRETS OF DREARCLIFF GRANGE SCHOOL, introducing us to a world of pulp and horror, heroes and villains, conspiracies and secrets. Then you have to learn it the hard way- sink or swim. Either that, or continue going through the same painful experiences day after day. The characters are lovely, especially Taggle the talking cat - one of my favourite characters of all time. I almost hate this to end but this is so worth the read. I would say this is a second grade reading level and up.
